Miss USA Gets Real, Tries To Give The Crown A Good Name

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Miss USA 2007 Rachel Smith is getting real – on her own reality TV show, that is.

Smith – successor of notorious bad girl Miss USA 2006, Tara Conner – is starring in MTV’s new reality series Pageant Place, which depicts the life and duties of Smith and her roommates, Miss Universe Riyo Mori and Miss Teen USA Katie Blair.

And while viewers may get to see the gorgeous girls in their crowns, sashes, and makeup, Smith insists being a pageant queen isn’t all glitz and glamour.

Says Smith: “People think we’re just pretty girls who won titles. They see us once a year, when we win our crowns, and that’s it. Pageant Place will show what happens after we win our pageants and how many responsibilities we have. Our job is tough, just like any other job.”

But Smith – who’s struggling to disassociate herself from the former Miss USA’s [Conner’s] tarnished image – knows exactly how to handle her beauty duty.

She explains, “I’m trying to be myself and focus on making my impact with my own projects. The class of 2007 is now in session and we don’t need to worry about the past.”

Pageant Place premieres October 10 on MTV.
