Knitting Pro Makes Hobby Manly

PORTLAND, Ore. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Guys, if you think knitting is only for women, a stitching pro is daring you to think again.

Knitting instructor and author Kristin Spurkland has just penned a new book, The Knitting Man(ual) (Ten Speed Press), which shares modern and stylish patterns men can knit and wear.

According to Spurkland, as more men catch on to knitting as a hobby, hipper and cooler knit patterns in menswear are needed to keep things stylish.

With some help from her brothers and male friends, Spurkland created garments like Nordic hats, mittens, and sleeveless sweaters, which are getting warm reviews from the men in her life.

Says Spurkland: “My guy friends love the designs so they modeled them for the pictures in my book. Every model in there is one of my friends, and every sweater or hat was made specially for them!”

Still, having her pals as models had its ups and downs.

Spurkland explains, “My friends were my inspiration for all the colors and patterns, which was great, but at the same time, I really had to worry about how they would look in the clothing. I was hoping they’d want to keep the knits even after the photo shoot!”

The Knitting Man(ual) hits shelves this September.
