North Carolina Is Full Of Bug Munchers

RALEIGH, N.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Bug buffs in Raleigh, North Carolina, are getting a mouthful – literally!

That’s because the 11th Annual Bugfest, Raleigh’s ode to insects, is flying into town September 15, and creating a buzz with its main event, the Cafe Insecta bug buffet.

More than 25,000 attendees will feast on creepy crawler concoctions like mealworm marinara and hoppin’ hunan stir fry grasshoppers, which festival coordinator Bob Flook says it’s part of the bug-loving experience.

He says,“The festival is a great place to get over fears and appreciate bugs, and eating them is a big part of that experience.”

Although the squeamish may pass on the insect snacks, Flook’s confident the fest will make some critter converts.

He says, “It usually starts with a dare, but when they realize how good the food is, they always come back for more.”

Flook also reminds folks that bugs are a common consumption, saying, “People don’t realize that bugs are in everything we eat, usually grounded up without anyone noticing.”
