Colombian Soap Star Tones It Down For American Audiences

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Colombian soap star Jimena Hoyos is hoping to cross over to American soaps, but first, she has to learn to tone down her ultra-dramatic telenovela acting.

Hoyos – who’s a contestant on this season of I Wanna Be A Soap Star – hopes to be America’s next Susan Lucci, and has been toning down the fake slaps, pregnancies, and love triangles to get more Americanized soap roles.

And although she misses the melodramatic twists and turns of her Colombian soaps, Hoyos is digging the glamorous life of American soap sets.

Hoyos explains, “There are a lot of distractions during filming on Colombian sets. There’s either a boom microphone in your face, which ruins the shot, or planes flying overhead, which ruins the sound. I like that it’s nice and quiet on American sets!”

But while filming and storylines are a bit different in the states, Hoyos hasn’t changed one of her Colombian soap habits: how she musters up TV tears.

She says, “My mother always gets upset with me because my trick to tears is to picture her dead on the floor. It’s a horrible trick, but it works every time!”

I Wanna Be A Soap Star premieres tomorrow (Aug. 14) on SOAPnet.
