Punk Rock Writer Remembers His First Time

OAKLAND, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One proud punk rock fan will never forget his first time – at a punk show, that is.

My First Time: A Collection of First Punk Show Stories (AK Press), moshes together fans’ – and musicians’ – recollections of their first time at a punk rock concert, and for editor Chris Duncan, collecting the stories was a headbanging trip back in time.

Duncan says, “Punk wasn’t on the radio or in major magazines. There was something intimate about walking into a room full of people like you.”

And while stories from punk stalwarts like The Dwarves and The Queers hit the page, for Duncan, punk’s real revelations are personal.

Duncan says, “I remember going to see Gorilla Biscuits. I was just a skateboard kid, and to drive two hours to a parking lot full of people like me was intimidating and exciting. I thought ‘I don’t have to listen to Def Leppard anymore!’”

The book hits stores later this summer.
