Celebrate Independence Day Without Explosives

POMFRET, Md. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – This July 4th, there are better ways to honor America than burgers and bottle rockets.

That’s according to Chriss Winston, co-author of How to Raise an American (Crown Forum), who offers exciting and educational ways for families to honor – and brush up on – their forefathers.

Winston’s presidential projects include downloading the Declaration of Independence, organizing a neighborhood bike parade, and visiting historical hot spots such as Yosemite National Park and Baltimore’s Fort McHenry.

As Winston puts it, “July 4th isn’t just fireworks and hot dogs. We want people to see the country as real Americans, not in some dry old textbook.”

Winston credits kids’ poor patriotism to movies like Syriana and The Constant Gardener, which portray America in a negative light.

But there’s a patriotic plan in her pages.

Winston recommends watching inspirational American movies like Miracle on 34th Street, Glory, and, of course, 1776.

As she says, “Kids need examples of the courage and ingenuity this country was built on.”
