Songwriter Lets Actor Call The Shots

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One acclaimed songwriter is more than happy to turn his tunes over to a Hollywood hot-shot.

Jesse Harris is best known for writing Norah Jones’ sultry smash “Don’t Know Why,” but it’s his own impressive catalogue that has Hollywood hunk Ethan Hawke singing his praises.

That’s because Hawke directed The Hottest State, which hits theaters August 7th and features artists from Bright Eyes to Willie Nelson rockin’ tunes from Harris’ solo albums.

Turns out, Hawke and Harris are friends, which helped Harris put his tunes into Hawke’s talons.

Harris says, “Ethan had specific ideas about who should sing which songs. So many movies sound like a director’s mix-tape, but Ethan has great instincts and taste.”

But not everything went according to score when Harris tried to get his claws on elusive singer Cat Power.

He says, “She’s not very communicative in terms of modern technology. She has no email address, and she doesn’t answer the phone. I had to fly to Miami to record her, but in the end it worked out great.”

Harris’ album, Feel, hits stores July 10th.
