Spanish Soap Opera Cashes In Credit Score Drama

MCLEAN, Va. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – There’s nothing quite like a love triangle on a Spanish soap opera, especially if you also learn how to buy a house from all the drama.

That’s the goal of Nuestro Barrio, a new Spanish melodrama series on public access TV that translates into “Our Neighborhood” in English.

The teaching telenovela combines soap-style slaps to the face with info on how to slap down interest rates, bad credit, and poor financial advice.

Now, see if this makes ``cents.''

The story follows the misadventures of a DJ at a night club who’s got the hots for a sexy waitress with good credit, and a babe bartender who encourages him to make the wrong money moves.

Executive producer Peter Skillern says he and his crew figured out how to give boring money advice to Hispanic audiences while eating at a Mexican restaurant and watching a traditional telenovela.

Skillern says, “Our show has all the same trauma and drama, but it also shows how to get ahead in America by making the right financial decisions.”

Nuestro Barrio premieres tomorrow (June 1).
