Freddy Krueger Passes Horror Torch To Leslie Vernon

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The man who played Freddy Krueger is now passing on his horror movie torch to a new serial killer character: Leslie Vernon.

Actor Robert Englund’s latest role is as a good guy named “Doc Halloran” in Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon.

The film concerns a documentary film crew who is following Leslie Vernon, a man aspiring to follow in the murderous footsteps of Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Halloween’s Mike Myers.

Englund describes his role as the obsessive good guy a la Van Helsing in Dracula or Captain Ahab in Moby Dick.

He also admits his appearance might “be considered a torch passing” to the film’s title character, especially because the film “deconstructs all the ingredients and contrivances of classic horror films from the ’80s and ’90s.”

But while Englund might be passing the horror film torch, he hopes the movie is a hot seller because he could see his own character starring in numerous sequels.

Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon debuts in selected cities on Friday (Mar. 16).
