Actor Trades Ph.D. In Mechanical Engineering In Order To Pretend

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If there’s a science to acting, then Scott Bailey has a handle on it. The science part anyway.

Bailey is a successful actor who is best known for his role as Sandy Foster on Guiding Light.

But before he took up what he calls “pretending for a living,” he was close to getting a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and even worked on the world’s most powerful laser.

But while Bailey is no longer working on his advanced degree, he says his science background has helped him on the set.

In his words, “Movie sets are a matrix of problems that have to be solved on the fly. And there are time when I will just blurt out, ‘Why don’t we do this?’ and everyone’s amazed.”

But while his science background helps him solve problems, he admits he doesn’t drag textbooks on the set when he’s filming, say, a love scene.

As he puts it, “If I’m thinking of science when I’m filming a love scene, I’m missing out.”

Bailey’s latest project is the MyNetworkTV soap Saints And Sinners, which debuts next Wednesday (Mar. 14).
