Super Bowl Of Women’s Poker Launches Saturday (Feb. 3)

COMMERCE, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Super Bowl XLI (Feb. 4) is the weekend’s biggest sporting event for most people, but an event that may one day rival it is also debuting.

It’s the first ever Los Angeles Poker Classic Ladies No Limit Hold ’Em Tournament, a two-day card event for ladies that organizer Cheri Dokken says is the “Super Bowl Of Women’s Poker.”

The event will feature as many as 350 card-carrying females competing for $250,000 and a seat at both the World Poker Tournament Celebrity Invitational in March and WPT World Championship in April.

Dokken says the event has only a $1,060 buy-in – and figures that will help talented women decide to take a chance because, as she puts it, “Most women – unless they are pros – won’t put $25,000 down to play with the big boys because their kids’ education comes first.”

Still, Dokken says female players are just as competitive as the guys, and have some advantages. In her words, “They have good intuition, can recover quicker and don’t get emotional after a loss. Best of all, they tend to be underrated by the men.”

If all goes well, Dokken sees the tournament becoming one of the biggest events in women’s sports.
