‘Color Purple’ Star Not Singing The Blues

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Actress Elisabeth Withers is starring in the musical version of The Color Purple on Broadway, and she has no reason to sing the blues in her real life.

That’s because she’s not only starring in the hit musical as “Shug,” but she is getting ready to release her debut CD, It Can Happen To Anyone next Tuesday (Jan. 30).

Although Withers is best known for being on Broadway, she wants the new album to be just as appropriate on Main Street, so she tried to make the songs as universal, not theatrical, as possible.

As she puts it, “I wanted to discuss my blessings, struggles, tears and prayers in music but make them as universal as possible.”

It seems to be going according to her plan.

The album hasn’t hit stores yet, but Withers says she recently tried on clothes in a department store dressing room and one of the other ladies recognized her and started talking about the record.
