Thats the word from author Linda H. Davis, who spent six years researching and writing Chas Addams: A Cartoonists Life (Random House), a biography on the man behind the creepy cartoon family and his weird quirks.
Davis says Addams had really dark tastes and adds: He had a coffee table in his house made out of an old Civil War embalming table with the metal headrest still in place. He also had a sewing basket made out of a dead armadillo.
While Addams did have his quirks, Davis assures that rumors about him sleeping in a coffin and drinking martinis with eyeballs in them are just that rumors.
Davis adds that while all the odd Addams family characters were special to Chas, Uncle Fester was his favorite.
Says Davis: Fester was the unrestrained version of Chas. He was naughty and a bad influence on kids. He was Chas but with less hair.
