Rattlesnake Festival Slithers Into San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The city of San Antonio, Texas, will be rattling with excitement next weekend (Oct. 21-22) at the 40th Annual “Rattlesnake Festival.”

Festival organizer Brenda Rubio says the traditional festival is held each year to honor the slithering snakes that have always been a part of the Texan landscape.

Highlights of the festival include a “Rattlesnake Run,” where people participate in a 5K marathon race and a “Snake Show,” which offers the public safety tips on rattlers.

But Rubio says the real highlight of the weekend is the “gopher races,” where mechanical gophers are pulled with a string toward the finish line and the winner receives a special rattlesnake trophy.

While festival-goers are encouraged to sport their best Western wear, Rubio says you wont catch folks wearing snakeskin boots – out of respect for the snakes.
