Amateur Arm Wrestlers Duke It Out For The Championship

BUENA PARK, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Arm wrestling isn’t just for the schoolyard – the pastime has its own amateur championship tournament too.

That’s what’s happening October 21 and 22 in Buena Park, California, when rookie arm wrestlers go mano to mano for the 29th Annual “World Amateur Arm wrestling Championships.”

Event organizer Randy Sampias says there are both right and left-handed divisions and two women’s divisions -- all separated by weight class.

Sampias says arm wrestlers from all over the world are expected and, as he puts it, “No one’s here to take home second place.”

Some matches are over in a heartbeat while others last up to 30 minutes.

Sampias says the best way to train for a match is to “arm wrestling anyone and everyone, because no two hands are alike.”
