Players Get Down And Dirty In World Championships Of Mud Football Tournament

NORTH CONWAY, N.H. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Things are going to get down and dirty Friday (Sept. 8) in North Conway, New Hampshire.

That’s because its the 31st Annual World Championships of Mud Football tournament and eight teams from all over New England plan to duke it out for the title in a giant mud pit.

For three days, players will pass the pigskin in a knee deep arena of goo that spokesperson Marti Mayne says is like “playing in a big pond of mud.”

She says officials make sure to keep the playing field nice and moist and players are allowed to wear bathing suit or anything “they don’t mind getting really dirty.”

Mayne claims the rules of mud football are the same as traditional ball, although she admits players have been known to shout “mud in your eye” before flinging it at their opponent.

Although the teams are all made up of guys, girls get in on the action at half time. That’s when the cheerleaders perform skits and even a synchronized swimming routine in the gunk.
