Celebrity Chef Anthony Bourdain Laments Loss Of Lebanon

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Beirut, Lebanon, will never be the same after the current skirmish between Israel and Hezbollah – and neither will celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain.

He was in Beirut at the time of the very bomb attack filming an episode of his series No Reservations, and thought he was making a documentary about how the city is a vibrant, tolerant multi-cultural destination “akin to South Beach, Miami or Malibu.”

However, members of Hezbollah drove through the streets in one scene and everything changed within seconds.

In his words, “I was with a Shiite, a Sunni and a Christian when the attack happened and they were all embarrassed we were seeing this.”

Bourdain says he and his crew were evacuated to a U.S. air base in Cyprus “thanks to the kindness of a few Marines.”

He’s alive but not well. Bourdain says one of the big regrets of his life will be never finishing the show he was making “about the Beirut I got to see for a few days.”

The Beirut episode of No Reservations airs Monday (Aug. 21) on the Travel Channel.
