Reality Show Gives Inside Look At How To Pop As Rock Star

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Music shows like American Idol have fans vote on performances onstage, but a new ABC series wants fans to pick a superstar based on what goes on behind the scenes.

It’s called The One: Making A Music Star and features 11 wannabe pop and rock stars competing for a recording contract by working with music industry insiders such as Andre Harrell, Mark Hudson and Kara DioGuardi.

Series host George Stroumboulopoulos says it’s a more realistic depiction of the music business than Idol or Rockstar: Supernova because it shows how producers refine performers to get them ready to be stars.

Contestants will learn how to work a stage and grab disinterested audiences, while Stroumboulopoulos jokes he’ll personally teach them how to wreck a hotel room, adding: “But that’s after the show.”

The One: Making A Music Star debuts Tuesday (July 18) and will be followed with a results shows on Wednesday (July 19).
