Jeannie Ortega Looks Up To Mariah Carey For Musical Inspiration

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Mariah Carey has turned into a tabloid headlines dream in recent years but at least one rising pop singer still thinks the diva is a good role model.

Singer Jeannie Ortega – who currently has a top 20 hit with “Crowded” – says Carey’s music inspired her growing up in her rough Brooklyn neighborhood and that her songs helped motivate the young girl to pursue her pop star dreams.

Says Ortega: “Mariah’s cassettes opened my eyes to a whole new world and that was it...I was instantly a fan.”

Carey’s music has shifted in recent years from soulful to more hip-hop but Ortega says the dynamic diva “still does it for her” and that she will always be an admirer.

The young singer is well on her way to having some admirers of her own. Her single is rising up the charts and she is gearing up for the release of her album No Place Like Brooklyn, which comes out August 1.

In addition, she will be appearing on the ABC soap One Live to Live this Monday (July 17).
