Mexican Lobby Cards Go On Auction Block; Owner Hopes To See $500 Grand

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A San Diego man is picturing himself having a small fortune in about two weeks – after he sells a huge collection of Mexican cinema lobby cards on eBay.

Starting tomorrow (July 5), Gary Silver is auctioning off what is believed to be the world’s largest archived collection of lobby cards from the Mexican cinema.

Silver gathered the collection by going to flea markets in Tijuana, which he says “is the No. 1 stop for flea market discards in Southern California.”

The lobby cards cover the years from 1930 to 1980 and while all are in Spanish, 33 percent are for American films with stars like Elvis Presley and John Wayne and 33 percent are for classic foreign films and “chop socky flicks.”

The complete collection has an estimated worth of $500,000 and while Silver hopes whoever purchases it does something to “benefit Mexico and its cultural legacy,” he also admits, “I’m in it for the money.”
