The Classics Of TV Science Fiction And Faith Compatible

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – George W. Bush is partly responsible for a new book about faith and the best of TV’s science fiction shows.

The book is called The Truth Is Out There: Christian Faith And The Classics Of TV Science Fiction (BrazosPress) and it’s co-authored by Thomas Bertonheau and Dr. Kim Paffenroth, an associate professor of religious studies at New York’s Iona College.

Paffenroth’s book looks at six of TV’s most popular sci-fi shows: Dr. Who, Star Trek, The Prisoner, Twilight Zone, Babylon 5 and The X Files; shows he says incorporate a variety of Christian and other faith-based ideas.

Although he adds, “Some of it is on purpose, though much of it is not.”

In Paffenroth’s words, “It’s just a way to seriously look at Christian archetypes through more than just the current president’s philosophy.”

He adds that he’d also like to “look at comics and heavy metal,” and that, “Christians cut themselves off from a lot of thoughtful stuff when they cede whole genres to The Devil.”
