New York Celebrates Swedish Fertility Holiday (June 23)

NEW YORK, (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – New Yorkers have a chance to act like Swedish meatballs tonight (June 23) thanks to a party honoring one of Sweden’s biggest national holidays.

It’s called “Midsummer” and folks in the Big Apple are hoping to have a “Swede” time at a party being held in the Soho district of Greenwich Village.

This is the fifth year New York has co-opted the Swedish holiday, meant to celebrate fertility and life by wearing flowered headdresses.

One of NYC’s Midsummer events is a polaroid dating booth, where singles are photographed, sign the headshots, and post them underneath other singles’ pics in hopes of running into their crush at the party.

An organizer who calls himself “Toshi” adds that, with fertility in the air, love connections are inevitable at festival.

He assures, “There are a lot of hotels nearby – and the cradles will be rocking.”
