Everything New Is Old Again For Sha Na Na

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Sha Na Na has had a 40- year career playing oldies music but now they’re trying something new: original material.

The oldies act has just released a new CD, One More Saturday Night, that features songs written by band members instead of cover tunes of Elvis Presley and Little Richard songs.

Drummer Jocko Marcellino says the idea was inspired after he came up with a tune called “The Cat In The P.T. Cruiser” – but it’s been a long time coming.

As he puts it, “We have four songwriters in the band. For instance, Screamin’ Scott Simon wrote ‘Sandy’ for the movie, Grease.”

That song is featured on the record, as is a ditty called “Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame” that Marcellino says was written long before the actual museum was built.

Sha Na Na is currently playing some of the new songs on tour and Jocko says the greatest compliment he gets is when fans ask, “Is that an old song or a new one?”
