Former Surf Camp Counselor Compiles The Ultimate Book Of Wipeouts

SEATTLE (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Riding the wild surf has long been the stuff of wild tales, and now a former surf camp teacher has compiled some of the craziest ones into a new book.

It’s called Surfing’s Greatest Misadventures: Dropping In On The Unexpected (Casagrande Press) and editor Paul Diamond says he knows a wooly wave story when he hears it.

According to Diamond, one of the “heaviest” yarns in the book is that of the French surf teacher out with three Sri Lankan newbies right when the 2004 tsunami hit.

Diamond says the French waterman has to rescue his panicking students – who don’t listen to his instructions to paddle OUT to sea rather than in when the killer wave hits – and later has to “run four miles” to find his marooned wife.

Diamond says there’s lots of humorous stories, too, his favorite involving big-wave pro Brad Gerlach smoking pot and having “paranoid delusions of being an Incan king.”
