Avril Lavigne Comes Alive By Playing Possum

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Avril Lavigne could soon have fans in the possum community thanks to her performance in an upcoming animated feature.

Lavigne plays a possum in Over The Hedge who learns the ins and outs of playing dead from her dad, played by William Shatner.

The role marks Lavigne’s acting debut and Over The Hedge director Karey Kirkpatrick admits he picked the singer over other pop singers and actresses considered for the role because she “was non-actory, very natural.”

Kirkpatrick based his casting decision more on her interviews than her auditions and almost says her “Canadian accent” was a plus because she didn’t play her character’s frustration towards her father as “harsh” as a more experienced actress might.

Over The Hedge, which also features the voices of Bruce Willis, Garry Shandling and Eugene Levy opens in theaters May 19.
