Disco Shocker: KC Of The Sunshine Band Says ‘We Weren’t Disco’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – How’s this for a disco shocker: KC of KC & The Sunshine Band insists the group was never disco before OR after disco was cool.

Harry Wayne “KC” Casey, who led the ’70s dance-pop sensations, claims he was actually the innovator of what later became “emulated as the disco sound,” but it was never truly disco in influence or style.

He feels his music was “far more influenced by the ‘Miami Sound,’ which was the horns and up-tempo fun of Motown greats” married to Caribbean influences such as Bahamian “junkanoo” music.

Says Casey: “Ever since I first heard junkanoo at a wedding in Miami, I wanted to record music like that. It’s just that it didn’t translate all that well on record, and we tended to go for a bigger beat” sound on subsequent records.

KC & The Sunshine Band’s Sounds of Sunshine Part 3 and Who Do You Love are set for release later this month (April 25) on the Collector Choice label.
