Plastic Surgeons Say Butt And Pec Implants Are Overinflated

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – It seems plastic surgery procedures like vaginal rejuvenation and butt implants are overblown.

That’s according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which says only a handful of people are having the “fringe” plastic surgeries despite media reports that they’re all the rage.

According to the ASPS’ research, only 542 buttock implants were done in the U.S. in 2005; 793 vaginal rejuvenations; and 206 pectoral implants.

Compare that to the 323,605 liposuctions, 298,413 nose jobs and 291,350 breast augmentations done last year and ASPS President Bruce Cunningham says the procedures aren’t as hot as everyone thinks they are.

Cunningham says the hullabaloo over the surgeries is likely due to journalists who get “fueled up” about them. He also suspects there are publicists in Los Angeles who contact the media about a fringe procedure and “pump it up.”

That doesn’t mean butt and pec implants won’t catch on with some. Cunningham says doctors will have to wait and see if more people come in and ask for them.
