Rick Dees Goes Espanol

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Veteran disc jockey Rick Dees is going where no English-speaking jock has dared to go before – straight to the Spanish-speaking market.

Dees is now hosting The Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 Con Sabor (“With Flavor”), the first bilingual countdown show hosted by a mainstream radio personality.

It sounds loco, but Dees believes the success of Spanish-speaking artists like Daddy Yankee, Frankie J. and Ivy Queen proves that the Latin market is the next wave of music.

In his words, “There is so much crossover but no one is embracing it.”

Dees admits the idea of doing the Spanish-oriented show was actually his son’s. In his words, “I told him to get me on a Los Angeles radio station and he told me, ‘Be careful what you wish for.’”

Dees does song intros in both Spanish and English and says the key to speaking espanol without a gringo accent is to “treat it as if it’s a song.”

The show currently airs only in Los Angeles but Dees thinks it will quickly jump to other stations in both Spanish and English markets.
