Drag A Capella Group Owes Start To Bette Midler

LAS VEGAS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Bette Midler and men in drag isn’t anything new, but in a way, the diva gave an all male, a capella beauty shop quartet group their start.

That’s according to Irwin Keller, who plays “Winnie” the “heart-warmingly domineering lesbian den mother” of the cross-dressing quartet the Kinsey Sicks.

The group is set to open a year-long engagement with their show Dragarella at the Las Vegas Hilton starting March 3, and according to Keller, some of the credit goes to Midler.

As he explains, 12 years ago, Keller and his co-stars went to a Bette Midler concert dressed in drag as the Andrew Sisters.

Someone in show-biz spotted them an offered them a singing gig.

Keller says they’ve never gone back to a Midler concert or met her to thank her, but they now perform at the same hotel as Barry Manilow, who played piano for Midler.

But as Keller humbly explains, the difference between his group and Manilow is: “He plays the big theater; We have to work up to that.”
