The group just released its second CD, The Wait Of Glory, and Livgren says the bands energy and spirit reminds him of the early days of Kansas before hits like Dust In The Wind and Carry On Wayward Son put corporate pressure on the group to create hit after hit.
Livgren says Proto-Kaw which features his nephew, Jake has more open space than his previous band and he figures, we could easily share the stage with any jam band.
Granted, Livgrens new group isnt playing the stadiums yet, but he doesnt mind because he believes the journey is more important than the destination.
Still, he admits its a funny feeling when the band is on the way to a gig and passes a place like Madison Square Garden and he says, I once played a sold-out show there.
Livgren is planning to tour with Proto-Kaw later this year but he isnt leaving Kansas in the dust. Although hes not a regular member, he occasionally does guest appearances when theyre playing somewhere in the midwest.
