Rankin And Bass Working On More Holiday Specials

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The men who created all those holiday specials featuring puppets are still pulling the heart strings of viewers 41 years later.

Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass are the men behind Christmas specials like Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and created 31 other specials between 1964 and 1985.

The last 20 years have been more subdued but Rankin says the duo are planning more works in the future.

While Rankin and Bass are working on new specials, they plan to rely on “animagic,” the stop-motion animation they pioneered, rather than computer animation.

As he puts it, “Animagic is warmer than computer animation” and speculates it’s because “there’s a human in the back of every puppet who is working to make sure that character gives the best performance possible.”

Rankin won’t divulge the specifics about future projects but is happy that one of his all-time favorites, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, airs tomorrow (Dec. 2) on CBS.
