Belleville, Wisconsin: ‘UFO Capitol of the World’

BELLEVILLE, Wis. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Forget Roswell, New Mexico. The residents of Belleville, Wisconsin have been calling their town “The UFO Capitol of the World” for years.

Stuart Shapiro, a long-time resident and editor of the town newspaper, The Belleville Recorder, says Belleville has earned the title due to several UFO sightings “made by really legitimate people” over a period of six months back in 1987.

The strange sightings included horizontally suspended blue, white and red lights flashing in the sky and, says Shapiro, “tube-shaped objects” seen in broad daylight.

Shapiro says he believes in extraterrestrials mainly because he personally knows two of the UFO witnesses and insists, “They’re down to earth people...not someone walking out of a bar.”

Although there hasn’t been UFO activity since, the sightings are still celebrated every October at an event called UFO Day, taking place Saturday (Oct. 29) this year.

Shapiro calls the event “a mixture of UFOs and Halloween” and says he wouldn’t be surprised if actual aliens came in disguise.
