Despite Title, Frank Black Insists Pixies DVD Not A ‘Sell Out’

PORTLAND (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The Pixies may have titled their new concert DVD, Sell Out, but Frank Black, the band’s lead singer, insists the title isn’t an example of truth in advertising.

In his words, “It doesn’t seem like a crass project, like a compilation of videos – which is what we did last year.”

The DVD features performances from the band’s reunion tour but emphasizes a concert in Belfort, France, because, he admits, “That was determined to have the best quality in both film and performance.”

Not that Black was the final judge. He says he’s his own worst critic and “has to rely on others to determine if a performance is good or bad.”

But while he believes the performances featured on the DVD are good, that doesn’t mean they’re perfect. As he puts it, “We’re a pretty honest band. Sometimes we make mistakes but there’s a raw quality to us and we don’t try to mess it up.”

Black says he’s still mulling a possible new Pixies album but, in the meantime, he’s working on a follow-up to his latest solo album, Honeycomb.
