‘Rock Star: INXS’ Marty Wants To Go From Songwriting Student To Teacher

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Rock Star: INXS contestant Marty Casey is learning what it takes to be a member of INXS, but he hopes to teach the band a few things as well.

Casey says he learned the art of songwriting by listening to the band’s greatest hits CD, but if he is picked to be their new lead singer, they’d better expect to learn some lessons as well.

In his words, “INXS pioneered a whole genre of dance-rock back in the ‘80s that is now coming back thanks to bands like The Killers and Interpol. If I’m picked, I want it to be a shared vision.”

If Casey does win the competition, he views his contribution along the lines of “what Beck would do if he were the lead singer of INXS.”

A perfect example of his approach is the recent assignment where the wannabe singers put vocals on a new song.

As he puts it, “The lyrics were upbeat and about world peace so I figured the only way to sing was to be dark and angry.”

The season finale of Rock Star: INXS takes place Sept. 20, just six days before Casey’s birthday and he jokingly hints that being chosen as lead singer would be “a great present.”
