‘85 Bears’ Team Has Our Heart

CHICAGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The 1985 Chicago Bears’ team really struck a chord with football fans around the U.S. and that’s no surprise to former Bear Shaun Gayle.

Gayle, a defensive back who played with Da Bears from 1984 to 1994, says that it’s an “anomaly” that a team that won only one Super Bowl in the last 20 years was and is more popular than teams which won two or three times within that span.

He says it’s because that year’s team featured so many diverse personalities and characters, but more importantly, “was so dominating.”

Da Bears are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their Super Bowl victory in 1985 with special events – including raffling off a customized chopper signed by each player on the ‘85 roster. It’s bringing together players who haven’t seen each other since Walter Payton’s funeral.

Gayle says the anniversary’s been a blessing in that way. As he puts it, “We don’t want something tragic to happen all the time for us to get together.”
