Being On The Right Side Of The Law Is Order Of The Day For Michael Imperioli

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Being on the right side of the law is the order of the day for actor Michael Imperioli.

Although Imperioli is best known as hot-headed mobster Christopher Moltisanti on The Sopranos, he’s switching to the other side of the law to play a detective on four episodes of Law & Order starting April 27.

Imperioli is temporarily replacing cast member Jesse L. Martin, who is working on the film version of the Broadway musical Rent, and he’s excited about the chance to cop work as a law man.

He admits the show is an acting challenge, because it’s more plot-driven than character-oriented but says he was inspired to take the gig after attending a memorial for former Law & Order star Jerry Orbach.

In his words, “At the memorial, they showed 15 minutes of Orbach on the show and there was so much character, so much emotion in it, that I realized a good character can be fleshed out over time.”

Imperioli is open to becoming a Law & Order regular but he can’t do that until he finishes the final season of The Sopranos, which starts shooting April 29.
