Yankee Hatred Will Even Outlive Steinbrenner

NEWCASTLE, Wash. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – No doubt George Steinbrenner’s ownership of the New York Yankees has helped make the team one of the most hated around the world, but don’t think the departure of The Boss will change that at all.

According to sports journalist Jim Caple, who penned the new book, The Devil Wears Pinstripes (Plume), Steinbrenner has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, but the hatred of the Yankees runs too deep for the employment status of one Yankee to matter.

In his words, “The Yankees were good and hated before Steinbrenner was there and they will be good and hated after he leaves.”

It’s not such a bad thing though, Caple insists, since every good drama needs a villain and the 26-time World Champions definitely fulfil that role.

He hopes his book, which pokes fun at the Yankees’ infamous trades, players and stadium food, loosens up some of the tension between Yankee lovers and haters.
