Prom Night Promises Bad Fashion Memories

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Every prom experience is different but there’s one thing they have in common: bad fashion memories.

According to Elissa Stein, author of a new book, Prom Night: The Best Night Of Your Life (Chronicle Books), even people who have great memories of their proms still cringe when they see the outfits and hairstyles that they wore on the big night.

For instance, Stein knows one woman who wanted to get a big bouffant for prom, but it caught on fire beforehand so she had to attend the formal with singed hair.

Every era has its fashion mistakes but Stein thinks the 1950s were the best decade for prom fashions because “all the boys look like Buddy Holly and the girls wear beautiful poofy dresses and pearls.”

On the other hand, Stein thinks the early 1970s were the low point for prom attire because “every guy seemed to wear a tuxedo made out of shag carpets or a paisley couch.”

Stein hopes her book brings back memories for former prom attendees but also hopes it helps teens who are going this year by teaching them that “...subtlety is better. Otherwise, you too will look back and cringe.”
