Bets Being Laid On Who Will Be The Next Pope

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Online gamblers are already taking bets on who will be the next Pope.

This past Thursday (Feb. 24), the online casino began placing odds on who would be John Paul II’s successor after news broke that he was rushed to the hospital.

The current favorite is nearly 71-year-old Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi with 5-to-2 odds, which means laying a $2 bet will pay $5.

Other possible future Popes are Cardinals Francis Arinze and Jamie Lucas Ortega y Alamino, both with 3-to-1 odds.

The field bet, which means bettors can choose any other Cardinal not listed, stands at 3-to-1 odds.

Finally, the longshot is currently Camillo Ruini who, with odds of 22-to-1, probably doesn’t have a prayer of being Pope.
