‘Sideways’ Winos Get Their Fix

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The Oscar-nominated wine country comedy, Sideways, has created shortages of some of the Santa Barbara pinot noirs swilled by star Paul Giamatti – but a wine website is hoping to fill the gap with a sale of the hard-to-find vintages. has just created a “Wines of ‘Sideways’ Collector’s Case” that contains 12 bottles of wines featured in the flick.

A case will set you back $425, but it contains six bottles of coveted wines from the Hitching Post restaurant and winery in Lompoc, California – featured in several key scenes in the movie.

Those wines aren’t even available at the winery right now, but founder Hal Oates managed to get his hands on the bottles through his friendship with the Hitching Post owners.

Even so, he admits that in order to get the wines, “I had to lean hard on them.”

Oates has 20 cases left and expects to sell out by the end of the day today (Feb. 18).
