Lincoln Log Cabins Making A Comeback

KENDUSKEAG, Minn. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Tomorrow (Feb. 12) marks Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, and the man who made log cabins a legend should rest comfortably knowing the tradition isn’t dead.

According to North Eastern Log Homes, which sells log home building kits, many people are interested in building homes similar to the style of Lincoln’s.

Spokesman Dick Pirozzolo says they sell “The Traditional” series of log cabins that measure 22-feet by 30-feet and are priced at around $100,000.

Pirozzolo says when they reintroduced the cabins it was considered to be “almost heresy” in the log home building community. But the homes have become popular.

He says they’re typically bought by Baby Boomers whose kids have left home and they want a smaller home. They’re also bought by people just starting out in life.

Of course, you don’t live with a dirt floor. They come with modern conveniences; cost less to heat and cool than other homes; and home owners pay less taxes on them.
