Groundhog Texts His Winter Prediction

Friday, January 29, 2010 17:11 GMT

HARRISBURG, Pa. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – This Groundhog Day (Feb. 2), one famous critter is making his winter’s prediction in 21st century fashion.

Punxsutawney Phil, a groundhog who’s emerged from a tree in Pennsylvania in search of his shadow for the past 124 years, has gone modern.

He’ll be text messaging whether he finds his shadow – a sign of how long winter will last – to more than 16,000 people who’ve signed up to hear the big news, even if he doesn’t have opposable thumbs.

Spokesperson Mickey Rowley says, “Despite his furry, wet paws, everyone will get a text from Phil. We’ll help him if he needs it.”

Rowley assures that it’s not laziness keeping Phil from announcing his prediction the old-fashioned way.

The groundhog is merely “just in with the times” and trying to reach as many people as possible.

Despite his move to modern technology, Rowley says Phil won’t be using “LOLs” or other hip text talk in his message.
