James Cameron Dreaming Of Aliens Since '70s

Thursday, January 28, 2010 17:07 GMT

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The alien world in Avatar may be all new to us, but James Cameron has been dreaming of it since the ’70s.

According to Rebecca Keegan, author of the new biography The Futurist: The Life And Films Of James Cameron (Crown), the eccentric filmmaker created the blue Na’vi aliens decades ago, randomly sketching them on paper between projects.

Keegan, who was granted special access to the set of Avatar by Cameron, says that watching his weird world of Pandora come to life was mind-blowing.

She showed up to set expecting lavish, grandiose props like in Titanic, but all she found was Cameron in an empty warehouse hunched over a camera.

Keegan looked into the lens and was able to see the entire world of Avatar right there in the camera – no fancy props required.

She believes Cameron’s films are successful not because of the landmark special effects, but because his stories “transcend cultures and gender.”
