BlackAndWTF.tumblr.com is a photo gallery of weird, often creepy pictures dating back as far as the 1890s.
Creator Matt Stopera says the photos, like one of a group of Klu Klux Klan members riding a ferris wheel or another of a buff circus woman flexing, truly make a person go “WTF,” or “What The Fþþþ.”
Stopera combs historical societies’ archives and flickr to find these rare shots, and has even found a few freaky ones at his parents’ house.
He’s often “surprised” by the pictures he discovers, since he, along with most others, are used to more “lame, posed” pics of people.
Though all the photos are weirdly random, Stopera is most spooked out by photos of families with odd ventriloquists dolls.
He explains, “I’ve found a lot of those. It must’ve been a thing back then. People take these dolls and pose them like they’re part of the family. It’s really creepy.”
