Best-selling author Carla Neggers is a pro at bringing thrills to readers, but before anything goes to print, it has to scare her first.
She was so in the zone while penning her latest murder novel, Cold River (MIRA), on shelves Tuesday (Nov. 24), she typed it on the edge of her chair.
She says that if her heart starts racing while writing, its means the story is truly suspenseful. Another good sign is if someone knocks on her door mid-writing and she jumps out of her seat.
Though being frightened is part of the process, Neggers admits she avoids penning the scarier stuff right before bed.
In celebration of her new book, Neggers is urging readers to experience their own thrills through the Life Is An Adventure contest.
Readers submit their idea of a perfect personal adventure and the winner gets $1,000 toward making that adventure happen.
