The Butterball Turkey Talkline dishes out advice to stressed and confused Thanksgiving (Nov. 26) cooks annually.
Operator Alice Coffey whos been talkin turkey for 16 years says callers No. 1 question every year has to do with thawing.
She says operators take their time with each call and soothe feathers by really talking folks through their problems.
Coffey once calmed down a guy who was making Thanksgiving dinner for his girlfriend and her parents. Instead of pressing the bake button on the oven, he pressed the clean button and his turkey was toast. She told him to hurry to the store, buy a new bird, and start over.
Another time, a lady called Coffey from inside her pantry. She whispered the whole time so guests wouldnt know she was asking for turkey advice.
Coffey says the operators are rarely stumped, despite handling more than 100,000 calls each year.
