Man Photographs Life For 18 Years

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Imagine smiling for the camera every day until your dying day.

On March 31, 1979, photography student Jamie Livingston began a project in which he photographed one moment of his life every single day with a polaroid camera, capturing himself with friends, the busy New York streets, and anything else that caught his eye.

He continued the photo series for 18 years until the day he died, marked by a picture of him lying dead in his hospital bed after a long fight with cancer.

The photos appear on PhotoOfTheDay.HughCrawford.com, where they’ve taken on a life of their own.

Hugh Crawford, a close friend of Livingston’s who put the site together, says the pictures have reached people all over the world who get inspired to start their own photo-a-day project.

Though he doesn’t recall all the moments on film, he says Livingston’s dedication to the project was “heroic.”
