Wrist Wrestling: A Handy Sport

WAUKON, Iowa (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – It takes more than a flick of the wrist to be a wrist wrestling champion.

The World National Wristwrestling Association has been spreading the sport of wrist wrestling for nearly 40 years, setting up competitions in which opponents attempt to twist each others’ hand up into their own underarm by the sheer the strength of their wrist.

Sport creator Jerry Halverson assures that wrist wrestling is just as tough as arm wrestling.

Unlike arm wrestling which only requires a strong arm, wrist wrestlers must have certain technique to be crowned a world champion.

Though he says some competitors are able to “swing both ways,” most can only be truly great at one of the sports.

Those who triumph in both styles of wrestling are revered by the entire community for their handy ability.

To get their wrists in top shape, wrestlers “sit all day pulling on a pully to get strong arms,” a technique Halverson has used himself.
