Movie Posters Used As Canvases

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Drawing over a movie poster can mean so much more than adding a moustache to an actress’ face.

Gallery 1988 in San Francisco is giving movie posters a makeover with their latest exhibit Now Playing, running this Friday (Sep. 18) to October 10.

Artists were assigned a large movie poster by curator Katie Cromwell and had to use it as a backdrop/canvas for a new art piece.

For example, one artist added an octopus holding a banana to a Beverly Hills Cop poster, while another took images from a poster for It’s A Wonderful Life, gave characters turntables for heads, and put them on a slab of wood.

Cromwell predicts it’ll be an “extremely fun show,” and thinks the new versions add a dose of humor to movie posters, particularly one of Raiders Of The Lost Ark where Harrison Ford is replaced by Michael Jackson.
