The towns annual Freckle Contest is tomorrow (Jul. 2) and for the first time ever, two dogs Dalmatians to be exact will be competing alongside speckled humans.
The pioneering pooches, 11-year-old Daytona and 4-year-old Ash, will compete in their respective age categories since there are no contest by-laws that prohibit Dalmatians from entering.
Event spokesperson Mark Soifer says the dogs are trailblazers, paving the way for all canines with spots or freckles.
He wouldnt be surprised if by next years event there were 101 Dalmatians competing with humans.
Though it could be argued that the spotted pups have an advantage, Soifer says thats not the case.
He says people with freckles all over their body often compete, and since their marks are smaller than the Dalmatians, theyre bound to have more of them.
