Trailblazing Dalmatians Enter Freckle Contest

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A couple of trailblazing pooches are making their mark on a long-standing freckle in Ocean City, New Jersey.

The town’s annual Freckle Contest is tomorrow (Jul. 2) and for the first time ever, two dogs – Dalmatians to be exact – will be competing alongside speckled humans.

The pioneering pooches, 11-year-old Daytona and 4-year-old Ash, will compete in their respective age categories since there are no contest by-laws that prohibit Dalmatians from entering.

Event spokesperson Mark Soifer says the dogs are “trailblazers,” paving the way for all canines with spots or freckles.

He wouldn’t be surprised if by next year’s event there were “101 Dalmatians” competing with humans.

Though it could be argued that the spotted pups have an advantage, Soifer says that’s not the case.

He says people with “freckles all over their body” often compete, and since their marks are smaller than the Dalmatians’, they’re bound to have more of them.
